FREEWAY

Once the beauty of life
now brutality
of age, lovers, promises.
Hold the highway
toenails screech
the hardened arteries,
veins leak memoirs
swell ankles with gravity,
strive becomes strife.

Don't get off!
The sidelines and byways sinister,
shorn sheep in overgrazed meadows
queue for next weeks dinner
innocent as mint.
