re:lode16

so many songs
employ
diminuendo
so as to
quietly become
our aspirations
softly blown
apart then kind
of reassembled
in a sideways night breeze
sounding out the pulses
from the other's
blood & then
another's being
here let's say
as star & background
to these old
embroidered rhythms
or could it be the news
that's made a ring
around the sky
or bath or mouth
& one of this big
moon's two vowels
keeps getting eaten
by a lion
or a vast nocturnal
starfish or
a rabid dog
in a rancid wig
who's never even
heard those songs
by Joni Mitchell
back in December
or was it January
anyway I'm here & now
& up to my left sky
in Jackie McLean
perhaps it's easier for me
than it ever was for him
although Paul Chambers
featured here on bass
keeps coming home
is that her voice
and now the fabulous protagonist of
this line is getting into bed
